Classes

The dance classes at Creative Sparks are designed to develop spatial awareness, movement, basic rhythm, mime, co-ordination and locomotion skills. However, just as importantly as the dance technique, dance classes also help to promote high self-esteem, confidence, social interaction and memory skills. The variety of classes offered will expose the children to creative dance, using stories and characters from all aspects of culture and society to expand their imagination.

Ballet:

Ballet is the backbone of dance technique to support the training in all other styles. Ballet encourages good posture, core strength and correct placement of limbs. This style of dance also helps students create elegant lines and ease of movement within a focused class structure. Students work toward ISTD exams in a friendly and calm environment. Ballet is a great starting point for the young dancer.

Modern/Jazz:

Modern/ Jazz classes are full of energy and lots of fun. These classes use the latest music or craze to capture each age group appropriately. A mixture of street, hip hop, jazz and lyrical give these classes endless scope for learning new dance moves. The ISTD modern exams are also available in this genre allowing the students to monitor their learning alongside Ballet and Tap. For the slightly older student new to dance this is a lovely place to start their dancing and to meet new friends. For the already competent student these classes create a versatile dancer and enable them to work on a more mature style of movement.

Tap:

Tap dancing is all about making noise! Luckily this noise comes in the sound of rhythmic foot patterns. Tap teaches children to understand and listen to music, clap and dance in time. These classes educate children to hear rhymes and reproduce them with cleverly choreographed steps. Again this genre allows students to take ISTD exams and is a style that is always enjoyed by any age group, be it 4, 14 or 84!

Acrobatics:

Acrobatics classes work on improving dancers’ flexibility and giving them a chance to learn new skills. Acrobatics is an exciting class for all ages with no syllabus or set work. From a roly-poly to a back-flip, the students will be flying in no time. Don’t worry parents: classes are completely safe and happen within a controlled environment. However, we take no responsibility for lights and ornaments broken at home during cartwheel practise!!!

Musical Theatre:

Musical Theatre looks at putting 3 of the performing arts techniques together- dancing, singing and acting. Each of these styles is a skill on its own but it is the ability to put them together that creates a fabulous stage performer. Classes work on a variety of musicals and pieces from various eras, backgrounds and performance artists. These classes are a great way to get involved in performing and being on the stage.

Singing:
Singing classes are a fun opportunity to try a different area of the performing arts. Singing classes are taken in groups and are open to all. Group classes look at chorus songs and ensemble work in unison or harmony. Pupils learn to blend their voice with others and work as a team. Singing classes are great for self confidence and reading skills. Music is taken mainly from musicals or modern pop songs suitable to the age group. Individual classes to further develop vocal skills are available on request.

Moonglow also provide classes in Ballroom, Latin, Rock and Roll, Disco and Freestyle. For more information on these classes please contact the Principal Bobbie Chatt using the details found on our contact page.
